Charlie is experiencing the kind of "blueness" that is associated with swimming in cold water etc. The body does not consider skin and extremities vital organs and they are the first to be sacrificed when the body needs more oxygen. Apparently in Charlie's case his episodes occur, most likely, because his body is requiring more oxygen to digest his food. This would explain why he has these every morning after he eats. His little body is already working hard to circulate the blood when he wakes up, then he eats and his body needs to digest the food. This becomes more apparent when kids are under stress or dehydrated or fighting a virus of some kind.
His Holter Monitor (the 24 hour EKG) showed no sign on heart rhythm abnormality. "Not even a skipped beat" the doctor mentioned.
Of course the cardiologist could not completely disregard these cyanotic episodes completely and we are to watch Charlie for signs of discomfort or frequent fatigue.
Tom and I are fully satisfied with this explanation. Thank you all for your prayers because I know that they worked! I am home with a very healthy baby boy. And that's a good thing.
Just a side note to those of you who have been there for me. Please know that there were several times when I found myself in the low places of a mother's thought, surrounded with fear, dread and the unknown. I found myself thinking of my friends here, on the all boys board. Where I could turn and talk and complain tell I'm blue in the face and receive nothing but loving care and encouragement! Thank you a thousand times over.
