I got the book read on Sunday morning, it was pretty good. The boys have both finished about 4 chapters, so they are making some progress. The book reminded me a little of Willy Wonka, but this takes place in a toy company. The "incident" was that the main character's dad used to work for them and was accused (but found not guilty) of embezzling funds. Of course everyone still thought he had done it, so he entered this contest the company was having so they would have enough money to move away. I liked the competitions they had to get through, makes you think about how to win them, they all took some thinking and logic.
So glad that you found something to motivate you. Sometimes you just have to hunker down and get it done. When do the boys have to have the book read by? My boys are still very young - 8, 7 and 2 and we don't do much ready yet. Well, not entirely true. My oldest son has just gone through a reading frenzy over the past year. He read his first chapter book ever last year - during the school year and took the summer off as a bit of a break. This year he has almost entirely read the complete series of Capain Underpants books. One of them he read in two hours. He just loves those books. The book he read last year was a Judy Blume book and to ensure that I knew that he was actually retaining what he was reading, I told him that I was going to read the book and then when he was done, I was going to ask him 10 questions to see if he could answer them. Well, to my surprise, he got 9 of the questions right. In his defense, the 10th question was very difficult. So, we are still getting into reading here at our place. I love that you are reading along with the boys though - very cool.
The first book club meeting is the 19th, Connor finished it over the weekend, and Matthew has about 15 chapters to go. Has he read the Ook and Gluk book yet by Dav Pilkey? My boys liked it!
Sean is only 8 and I have a hard time getting him to read chapter books yet. The twins get to participate in a battle of the books that the school is doing. There is a list of like 25-30 books and they get into groups of 4. They need to have all the books read by at least one member of the group, because the librarian is putting together a huge "quiz show" towards the end of the year. The PTO is going to have prizes for the team that wins, and also have them for other parts of the battle.
I've never heard of that book, Melissa. I don't think it's one my boys ever read.
Sounds like a fun read!

That's awesome that he did so well on your little quiz!
