Just reading the title of your post struck fear in my heart! :D
I always tell myself that I'm going to start Christmas shopping WAY before the season arrives, but I fail to follow through every year. I might pick up a few items prior to Thanksgiving, but do most of my shopping between then and Christmas. We do the crazy Black Friday thing if there's something worth going out for. Last year, we did Wal-mart's midnight sale and got a basketball goal for Sean for $75 off normal price. I stayed up all night and went to Lowes and then to Target. Lowes is the best place EVER on Black Friday! I think the hardest part for us is shopping for our parents. We like to do things that are unique/memorable, not just a candle or a movie or a pair of slippers. I hate waiting until the last minute and being forced to find something in Wal-mart for them.
Alex is too young to understand making a list or when Christmas will be here. Sean doesn't have a list, yet, but we will come up with one when we get closer to that time. Honestly, I try to buy things for them second-hand via craigslist or my community email list, and put them away for Christmas. All of Alex's birthday presents earlier this month were bought second-hand and I have a HUGE bag full of pieces to make several Hot Wheels courses/tracks that I'm saving for Christmas. It will be here before you know it!

I find our parents very difficult to buy for also.

I'm already buying stuff! I've been picking up things here and there for the last month or so. My plan is to pick up at least one gift per pay period. Hopefully that'll take off a little bit of stress from all of the holiday shopping. My boys are of course making mental lists (Jacob wants a tarantula!). I'm going to check out the plan you shared. I can use all the help I can get.

Oh, and iVillage also has the Holiday board open! It covers Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Check it out!

You know... I'm leaning towards getting him one. Leslie posted on Facebook about her boys having one over the summer (it was a classroom pet I believe) and she said they are super easy to take care of. I guess you only have to feed them once every 2-3 weeks. The creep factor may change my decision, though. I really think it would be good for him to have the responsibility of a small pet, but I don't want anything stinky or loud. LOL!

I like that you don't have to feed them very often!

I need to take my boys to the toy section and see what they latch onto. I rarely let them SEE that section because I feel bad when they start begging. They have so many toys...Sean is really outgrowing his stuff though and I have no idea what he'd like to replace it with. He likes Bakugan, but he doesn't actually "play", he just likes the little balls and cards. The older he gets, the harder he is to buy for.
As for the tarantula, at least they're fuzzy...? I hate spiders, but I have to say that it WOULD Be a small pet that isn't loud or smelly. I've never seen a tarantula run on a hamster wheel! LOL!

They do get harder to buy for the older they get -- and more expensive!

Yep, crickets it is! That part does gross me out a bit... but if it means less harping about feeding and cleaning, I may go for it. I'm not sure yet- not totally sold on the idea!

Leslie is doing good. I don't talk to her as often as I'd like (and I miss her!) but I am able to keep in touch a bit on FB.
