Switching a co-sleeping child to a shared room

We have been putting off moving my youngest child (3) into a room with her sister. My older daughter wants bunk beds. I am concerned that having them on the same side of the bed will not encourage them to sleep or will have my toddler climbing up to sleep with her sister.

My toddler is a pretty tall little miss, so we might be to the point that we should purchase a full sized bed over a toddler bed. The room is large enough to accomidate two beds along with their dresser and toys, but a bunk bed would save a bit of space.

What did you do or what do you plan on doing if you needed to combine two children into a room?

I had the same worry/issue about my two talking and playing at night instead of sleeping. After several nights of scolding "please stop talking", "it's time for bed now", it finally dawned on me to put them to bed at different times. It's worked pretty well! My older one likes having that extra 1/2 hour to stay up which allows my younger one to fall asleep first. And my oldest isn't really losing that much sleep b/c it would often take 1/2 hour (or more!) of me trying to get them to settle down enough to go to sleep when I was putting them to bed at the same time.

Wise choice.

My kids have had bunk beds in the past. Starting when the younger was 2 years old. She was not able to climb to the top bunk. Noise is an issue. Now they have beds on opposite sides of the room and we built some room dividers and painted them with chalk board paint. It helps cut down on their talking at night.

I have no suggestions other than different bed times. We haven't had to combine kids in one room yet but will probably be there in the next couple of years so that's what I would do. Good luck! :-)
