HI! Im from the Oct 2004 board. Im going to paste here what I said there on the advice of Dana :).

I have a ring sling, a pouch and a Mai tei. These are all great but I need something different now. I know these carriers work for a heavier child but

It doesn't look terribly difficult to make. The adjusting mechanism looks a bit complicated but you wouldn't need it if its just for you. Does your mom absolutely need a pattern? I've made all my slings- including an ergo- just based on the pics. It takes a bit of experimentation but works out great.

I would imagine you have a simple rectangle for the back with the tie at the top in a casing. the sides/straps are longer rectangles that narrow on one end. Then you just need a flat u-shaped bottom piece.

Good luck.

I like the hip hammock better than the hip hugger because it has a strap that goes around your waist. (Mine is a bit different than the one in the picture, as I bought it before she sold her design.)

If you can get your mom to make you one, you might consider a better shoulder strap.
