can't say enough about the Ergo. Just spent 4 1/2 hours with my 14 month old in the front position (she is over 20 lbs) only able to sit for a few minutes total (we were dealing with movers). She was so content the whole time and the only thing that hurt when I took her out were my legs from standing.

I have to agree that the ergo is awesome- my DS is lonly 10 months tomorrow, and is already 31 5/8 inches tall and 28 1/2 pounds and I can easily carry him for hours.

I have always used a ring sling a la the maya wrap (1st with dd who's now 3yo and can still be carried in it, if we're so minded and now with 10mo ds) and love it for many reasons, ease of use (even dh can use it), lightweight, nip, different holds (5, i think, but i do only 3 and that's enough for us!) and lasts till 35+lbs (which is what dd weighs now, i think).

BUT I almost clicked the baby wrap cos I've been looking at it online and thinking wow! it's really versatile AND looks like it has better weight distribution (ds is almost 20lbs and my back and shoulder is feeling the weight) which will save my back fr aches and pains. What held me back was the amount of fabric to deal with, just too much and potentially too difficult and too much fuss to throw on for short trips (which is what we generally use our sling for) and may be too hot in our weather.

Oh, wait, I'm talking abt the ella roo wrap and other wraps like it (eg the moby wrap). Is that what you're talking abt or is it another carrier?

Anyways, I'm also looking at the mei tai but to me it's drawback is difficulty to nip.

Guess it depends on what you're gonna to use the carrier for.

Hope you find the one that suits you best!

If you have no other slings or carriers, I would start with a pouch sling--like a new native baby carrier or Hotsling.

I loooove the Ergo. It is so comfortable, and DD falls asleep in there when she won't fall asleep in any other carrier. I do think the Mei Tai is a lot prettier, though! I haven't used it, so I can't comment on its comfort, but I had to stop using a ring sling because its just too hard on my back now.

ds is just 8 months, and the Mei Tai has been invaluable!! we use wraps and pouches as well, gave up on ring slings of all kinds a few months ago~ wraps are pretty comfortable, but the learning curve is high. and the other thing with them... not terribly "poppable". not easy to use for quick trips to the store (i've done it, but it's not as easy by ANY means. getting the wrap around his back and under his bottom while he was in the carseat was just... comical, that's the best way to say it, LOL)

anyway, so the wraps are super comfy, and love them for around the house... but for trips out, Mei Tai, hands down.

I like the ergo very much too, it's the third carrier I've tried, and is the most comfortable. I started with a ring sling, and it fine at first, but as DD got bigger, she was very squirmy in it, and it hurt my shoulder. I was using a baby bjorn for shopping, but it started to pull on my shoulders too. The ergo appealed to me because it can also be used as a back carrier. Heidi seems very comfortable in it.

Good luck with your selection!

Of the two choices you have I would go with the Mei Tei. Actually the Ergo is really a Mei Tei without the tying. We have just about every type of carrier at my house right now. I've made them based on the designs of the other carriers. I'm just finishing up my Ergo-style one so I'll have more to say on that later.

The wrap just has too much fabric to deal with. I don't find it worth the hassel. The same thing with the ring sling. Although that might just be 'cause its already 90 degrees where I live. The mei tei is nice in that aspect, less fabric. Although the back carry seems scarier when you're just tying it, versus the Ergo which clips.

After all that I must say that the number 1 sling we use is still the pouch. I love the fact that its so portable I could almost stuff it in my pocket. Also ds just pops in and out of it easily. He can face out with no problem or in if need be. So I guess I need to change my vote!

Hope this helps.
