I've been a lurker for awhile- I don't have my own kids, but I'm a nanny for a five year old boy and an eleven month old girl(she'll be one on 6/7- too soon!) and will start caring for another family this summer with three girls- 5, 4, and 2.
As Delaney(11 month old) has gotten bigger and less content to be in her walker while I make meals/wash dishes, etc., I've become interested in slings, and now I don't know how people parent or take care of kids without them, lol.
The first one I tried was a NoJo, and it was okay, but I felt like it was so big and hard to adjust, and I'm not a small person. It never felt very comfortable or secure, and couldn't really do the hip carry, which I think would be the best for her size. So I gave that to a friend who just gave birth, and bought some lengths of cloth and tried to use them as wraps(I found a lot of the info at mamatoto.org), but I found those very difficult and akward to use.
So....I read a lot about hotslings and just ordered one(I think I'm the only single twenty one year old with two carseats and various diapers and wipes and bottles in my car, and a growing stockpile of baby-wearing items, lol). My question is, how easy have you found it to do the hip carry with the hotsling? Or, can I still do the kangaroo carry(she's 25 lbs)?
I have problems with neck and back pain, so I'm kind of worried about the strain also. If you've used one, how has it been comfort-wise? I've read about the Ergo, and really want to get one of those in the next few months. I see these as investments in the future, and I plan to take care of many more, and have my own, children(at least, I tell myself to that rationalize spending much of the money I make as a nanny on childcare products, lol).
So...any experiences with wearing a toddler in a hotsling would be appreciated. Thanks! :)
blessed to care for:
