Hi all! I am new to your board and i would like some of you ladieses (lol i know that isnt a word!) helpful advice, i want to get a sling for my soon to be one year old, i had a Snigli and a Baby Bjorn up until a few months ago but i have noticed that he still really wants to be close to mama, i would prefer ont that i can carry him infront rather than at the back. Could you please point me in the right direction as far as what the best sling would be support wise for a baby of this age, thank you very much.

I got a Maya Wrap ring sling when my older DD was about 15 months old. I got it with the intent of using it with my younger DD (who was due a couple months later), but I started using it with my toddler, and it was great. She didn't like it the first couple times I put her in it, but she adjusted after just a few minutes and started to want to be in it.

I used the hip carry, so she was right there with me, but I could be hands-free. I carried her in it while making dinner and sometimes on walks. I even took her to the mall in it a couple times, and it was nice b/c she could walk some of the time and be carried some of the time. I stuck a diaper and my wallet in the pocket on the sling, and we were good to go.

That's the only carrier I've tried with a toddler, so I have no other ideas for you, but I personally really like the ring sling.

A simple ring sling is very versatile. You can do the kangaroo carry and when baby becomes uncomfortable with that (i.e., too big), switch to the hip carry. I use the hip carry for my 20 month old and it works very well. We also use the Playtex Hip Hammock and that works well, too.

Good luck!
