I know, weird subject, but I didn't know how else to word it!

I want some opinions on a traditional baby sling vs. the out of the box carriers you buy retail (such as Evenflo or Baby Bjorn) vs. the hip hammock (http://www.hiphammock.com). We've been carrying and holding DD, but it has finally reached a point where she is too heavy to carry even if she is petite (9mos and 16 lbs). So, I'm researching carrying options for those rare times when she wants to be held and carried (and not down on the floor playing with her toys and scooting on her lil bum all over the place!)

TIA!

Hi Michele,

I've used all three. I used the Baby Bjorn up until my son was about 4-5 months old when I went shopping and such, then it started to hurt my back. I used the sling mostly around the house. When he could sit-up by himself, I tried using the sling in the hip sitting position, but I never seemed to get it right and it always cut into my shoulder, making me very uncomfortable. I finally bought the hip hammock and I love it! HTH

Well, my DD is same size---we used sling to 4 mos, Bjorn from 4-9 mos then it started hurting my back. I then bought a kangaroo korner (kangarookorner.com) fleece pouch and used it in the hip carry position. Found it comfy and she liked it until she started walking well (@ 14 mos) now she hates being in it because she wants to get down. I am now considering an ergo carrier as backpack/hip/front carrier (ergobabycarrier.com)---waiting for some reviews from board members---am hoping she'd like a backpack type carrier

i've had exactly the same experience...bjorn for the first 4-6 months, sling around the house, and hip hammock when out and about. DS is 2 years old, and we still use a sling and the hip hammock. the bjorn is great for newborns, but gets uncomfortable with older babies. don't bother with an evenflo/fisher price/etc. carrier.
