Food for though....Does your child fall into this category?

Not really -- there are quite a few children retained every year because they don't meet the "grade." I generally get several calls every spring to review letters for parents. Most of them are in regards to NCLB standards and some come down to maturity, frankly, when you push the teacher for reasons if they haven't been clear in the letter. We generally then ask that they re-evaluate in the Fall and find that in most cases, the child can move to the next grade level. It's amazing what 6 weeks over the summer can do for a lot of kids! :D

Sara, we had a son we held back because he wasn't ready. If we had let him continue going to class that year, I'm sure that there would have been more problems beyond the ones we were already seeing. He was among the youngest in his class and would have definitely fallen into this "category" and eventually did due to some other issues that weren't properly addressed by a teacher. But that's another story altogether.
