Beth, thanks so much for dropping in and sharing. I know that it takes a leap of faith to do so. Your fearlessness proves your greatness! WAY TO GO.

I've already shared a few ideas with you in our email, however, I'll be back in a little while with a few more as soon as I get done with a few more housekeeping chores around the place.... I just wanted to let you know that I've seen your post! Welcome to the board!

Hi Sue, thanks for your words of support, I appreciate it. :)

As far as I know, the girl was just given some ice for her face and that was it.

Hi boobean... OOoo man, am I glad I joined here, it's definitely great to hear other's stories... thank you for telling me yours. :)

Thank you for the sympathetic words... it helps to know I'm on the right track. And yes... if nothing else... all this drama is teaching me to be an assertive person, if noone else will stand up for my son... I better ramp up my spinal fortitude, and not allow anyone to walk over my son, or me, just because they can't figure him out. lol

Thanks for replying boobean and telling me how it's been for you.

Well, the day has certainly gotten away -- that Dr.'s appointment turned into a whole morning! LOL Everything's ok as ok goes. :)

Looks like my friends dropped by -- they're from our sister board which I hope you'll also take some time to get acquainted with here shortly, the Spirited & High Needs Children Board (http://forums.ivillage.com/t5/Spirited-High-Needs-Children/ct-p/iv-psspirited) -- You'll like it there too! ;)

One thing we didn't go over is do you have an IEP or 504 plan as Patty and Sue has asked?

Has the school suggested a behavior plan? Have you considered asking your parenting coach to help you advocate at a meeting with the teacher and the school regarding the Approach since you're already seeing some positive changes? The coach may have some additional clout with helping put a more significant positive based behavior plan in place.

Just a little food for thought.

Hello Jan... I forgot to mention about we already had an IAT meeting, where me, the principal, the Special Ed fellow, the school psych, some other lady I forget who she was, sorry, lol, and Mason's teacher... PLUS.. my coach was there, she volunteered to come help support me, she's been such a marvel. Basically we were there to come up with solutions and a behavioral plan, without any sort of official actions being taken. I had just come across the "Notching Up... " book and it had struck such a chord with me... I brought it to gift it to the school for their own benefit, as well as something else, that my coach had been using with us "Winning at Parenting"... but I brought the "Winning at Teaching" version CD for their resources as well. They did not seem really interested at the time, and I still do not know if any one of them has gone over the materials.
All they had for us, was a charting system, charting his behaviors, and breaking his days down to 15 minute increments... I do not know whether they have been doing that either... as I have heard nothing from his teacher.
Also during the meeting, and in subsequent emails to the principal, have reiterated time and again how much improvement we have been seeing at home and elsewhere since we've been adjusting our perspectives and attitudes, they did not show much interest in our results, we kind of got blank looks mostly. lol There's only so much I can do, I can't force them to change their ways of doing things.
I also mentioned how intensely bright he is, and the behavioral issues that can go along with that (no he has not been tested for giftedness as of yet) I got no response about that so far either.

I hope I answered your question well enough... if not, I"m open.

Hey, I'm glad your Dr's appt went well! And yes, I''ll probably drop in at the other Board sooner than later. Thanks! :)

do they test for giftedness at his grade level? Have you made the request in writing?
