Do you have lots of summer activity plans for the kids this year or is it the same old, "I'm bored" you're already hearing?

Most larger metro area have a parenting magazine - online or print that offers great ideas free/low cost daily and weekly ideas of things you can do with your kids of all ages. Check it out!

Check your local library for passes to museums, art exhibits and zoos for a discount!

For older children/tweens/teens: Ask about mentors at local guilds as well if your kids have a special interest in a craft or skill in woodworking, needlearts or writing or quilting, spinning, dyeing wool, etc and would like to learn more. Some artists will open their studios to you and your children and become a mentor.

Visit a Makers Fair or craft fair and look particularly for handmade items and talk to the crafters

Learn a new skill -- as a family

Have a preparedness drill. Know what to do in case of an emergency. What would your family do? Have a family meeting. Don't use it as a scare tactic, but as a discussion time to prepare and talk about the responsibility each person in your family has. Make your plan. Practice your plan. (do it monthly)

Plan an outing at a splash park and a picnic - make sure you take a waterproof camera along. Scrapbook those memories with your kiddos on paper or digitally. Have fun!

Take a bike ride together.

Grab a blanket, some sunscreen and watch the clouds in the sky. Is it a cow? A ship? Maybe a science lesson in the making?

Depending on where you live, plant a garden - containers or in a part of your yard. Flowers or veggies. Check out lasagna or square foot gardening to maximize your space and your budget as well as recycling options.
