At what age is appropriate to get your son a cell phone?

I so agree that the maturity of the child plays into the decision as well. I think a Trakfone would be a great idea for a child! Not too much of an investment and can be 'turned off' without penalty. Thanks for the reminder!

I believe that cells are a tool and not a toy. If they are not old enough go understand that, then they don't need it be it 18 or 8. My son did have a cell in 4th grade, a twenty dollar Trakfone. It was because I had 2 kids in 2 schools, different leagues in sports and other activities. If I was running late I needed to call the kid to let them know.

Hi, movingontoyou! Welcome! So glad you stopped by.

I totally know what you mean about holding off. Cell phones are not cheap! Ironically, after I posted this, last night DH and Kolby had this very conversation. Dh caved and is going to let him have one the beginning of next school year. He'll be almost 10.
Can you imagine? When I was 10, I still had to stretch the phone cord (CORD) to my bed room for privacy. We have come so far.
