Hi Kathleen and welcome. Congratulations on your daughter. I hope you are having an easy pregnancy so far. Both of my dd's have peirced ears and all my sister's daughters' have peirced ears. I personally don't see anything at all wrong with it. One of my neice's got her ears peirced at 6 weeks old,one at 4 months old and the rest of the girls in our family at 3 years old. Our Pediatrician peirces ears and I know other Pediatricians do too. When you decide on a Ped. you may want to call and see if they do it and what age they would recommend. I know that I was told if you didn't get it done before 6 months old you would have to wait until they were 3yrs. or so because otherwise they may pull them out.

I didn't, but I'm sometimes wondering if I should have. DD decided when she was a little over 7 (she's just over 8 now) to get hers done and she put in this pair of really super cheap earrings she'd gotten for her birthday and they got all sore and we couldn't get a good earring back in so she let them grow over. She is not interested now, but I'm sure in a couple of years she'll want them again.

I lived in Eastern Europe and having baby's ears pierced is the norm. In fact you'd probably be considered a negligent parent if you DIDN'T do it within weeks of the birth. They all seem to be doing okay. You will hear lots of stories about babies who pull earrings out or get infections, but I'm sure that's a small minority. Its really a personal and sometimes cultural thing. Congrats on the upcoming bundle and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I didn't pierce my girls' ears when they were babies. Rachel JUST got hers done for her 4 year birthday; and I only did it then because she asked for it (several times). They did them both together at one time to minimize the trauma. She's done VERY well with them since. I'm SO proud of her.

I've heard that you should wait until they have their first set of shots at around 2 months old before you pierce. If you do it, to try to minimize the trauma to your DD and to your mommy heart, find someplace that will do them both together.

Good luck, and welcome.
