Calculator was Interesting and quite useful to work out other things. Most things were completely out for me but my expenditure is unusual. The amount I spend on food is reasonably accurate ie about 14%. I like meal planning as it means I have nicer meals. I hate the days when I have to grab whatever's in the freezer. I sometimes use coupons but I think we have fewer over here.

I usually buy fresh food and cook from scratch which works out cheaper than ready meals but soemtiems ready meals are nice and quick.

My big issue is menu planning. I know I need to do more of it! I wonder too about that last comment of buying from local farmers. I think it's great to buy from local farmers but is it in my budget?

I find that when I buy more fruits and veggies from the local farmers I eat less meat and side dishes which does save money.

Fresh tomoato sauce sounds good. Fresh tomatoes are reasonably expensive where I live so it's always cheaper to make sauce from tinned tomatoes but the plain tins of tomatoes or chopped tomatoes are much cheaper than the jars of sauce so I always make sauce from tinned tomatoes! I've only made one spaghetti sauce with fresh tomatoes. Usually fresh tomatoes are just cut up in salads.

I can't get to this article at work (security blocks it) and I keep forgetting to look at it at home, but I love saving at the grocery store!! It's really expensive up here!! We will grow some of our own stuff next summer!!! Got the green house all ready. One of our main grocery stores has a rewards program. YOu get money back and you get savings on fuel. So that definately helps. My last money back was almost $32.00. I'm also a big coupon user. I have a few websites that I check out before shopping and I really try to stick to my list. I'm not winning that battle right now though!! :0)
