pair of little girl's shoes because you felt the heel or sole was inappropriately too high? My 9 yr old DD is constantly wanting these outrageous looking (at least I think so)shoes and I just don't feel right about buying a girl this age such things. She is by no means short for her age so I can't figure out why on earth she would want the them(not that I think short girls should have them either). Am I just old fashioned or something?

Well, I didn't refuse, although now the shoes sit mostly unworn. It was a pair of slip-on sandles that is farily high, kind of platform shoes. She really really wanted high heels. Sigh. I don't think it has to do with height, it has to do with being grown up. She doesn't wear these much anymore because she has learned a) you can't run with your friends in high heels b) your ankle turns over every now and then trying to walk in them and c) they give you blisters when you have to walk far.

So I think she has learned the hard way that while they look nice and grown-up, they aren't very practical. I will refuse to buy sparkly silver shoes though since they are simply impractical and she would never wear them. At least these sandals she will wear once in a while when she has to dress up.

try platform sneakers for toddlers. These kids can't walk well to begin with.

I refuse to buy a lot of the 'trashier' clothing and accessories for my girls. They are TOO young to be wearing some of this stuff. I see littles wearing stuff that teens shouldn't even be wearing and it just frustrates me to no end that the 'marketers' think this is acceptable! My girls will NOT have the starring rolls in "my pre-teen dresses like a tramp" Jerry Springer show!

i agree with Lisa. We have been clothes shopping for my 9 yr old dd. I can not believe some of the stuff she picks out. I just stand there and she knows by the look on my face "No Way!". My 4 yr old dd is talking about wanting make-up for school. These girls just need to be little girls... What is going on...?... And ya, she gets up-set but so be it! She's not dressing like a tramp to go to 4th grade...

Jeans,a nice t-shirt and tennis shoes is fine with me for her to be wearing to school.
