My dd Sarah (10) is just starting to like more popular music and she wants some CDs of her own. My boys are not big music fans and prefer to listen to what DH and I listen to. I have no clue who is decent and appropriate for her age. Can someone give me some suggestions???

LOL! I am no help. My kids listen to what my husband likes. He has a wide variety of tastes, which include some popular up-to-date groups.

I guess I am the old fogey here. I like old rock and new country. I also like light classical music. I wouldn't know a pop singer today if she/he bit me!

ANYTHING BUT BRITNEY SPEARS! She is such a bad role model! As i'm sure you've heard. I'd suggest Jessica Simpson shes really good and she has set a good example for girl she was a virgin until she was married and spoke openly about it.

LOL! I've never seen that Britney Spears but I sure have heard an awful lot of bad things about her. I'll go look for that Jessica Simpson. If you can think of anything else be sure to let me know.

Thanks!!

I have 2 girls, Keaton 11 & Anna 9, they both love music and dance of any kind. They both like anything from old Motown to 70's disco and everything in between because of their dad & I. I try to moniter what they listen to as much as I can but sometimes it's hard because music is so accessible to kids today everywhere. Most music cd's come with a rating just like movies now so that's always a big help. Also, there's usually always an edited version of any hit song these days. Keaton downloads alot of her music so I know excactly what version she's listening to. Wait until she starts watching music videos- that's when it really gets scary. Good Luck! Stacey

Goodness Karla--you've never seen Britney Spears? You are out of touch! LOL! She was married and then annulled in 55 hours this weekend. Can you believe it. I think she is a terrible singer anyway. She tries to be as wild as she can. So does that Christian Agulera or however you spell her name. About like Madonna in my time (although she can still pull some pretty outrageous stuff).

LOL! We're big Motown fans too! My boys both love Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, and Ray Charles. Sarah listens to more modern stuff when she is at the gym so she wants some more "popular" music. LOL-She does however, LOVE the BeeGees. It's quite a hoot to her her and her cousin singing the stuff that was so popular when I was a kid.

My DD(12) likes to listen to Hillary Duff. She has a wide variety of tastes in music; I let her listen to anything but rap. She also likes Avril Lavine(sp?) and a couple of others that sound the same(must be getting old-they all sound the same)

I TOTALLY forgot about those two! They're really good and Hilary Duff is only sixteen so she a little closer in age to your daughter!

oh and another thing there is this website you can go to and look at the lyrics to some of these songs. www.lyrics.com you click on the first letter of the artists last name and there most recent album and you can look at the words of there song so you don't have to worry about the words!
