Well, it's that time of year again when the kids trudge off to school. This year my youngest daughter is sending her girls to a school where uniforms are mandatory. "You can express yourself on your own time" I definitely agree with this Sue when people say uniforms stiffle creativity. You have all evening, all weekend and long vacations to dress as you want and wear whatever colour you like. I do have friend who went to a private school with a very strict uniform and she refuses to take any job where a uniform is required as an adult!

I'm currently thinking about DD's high school which she will start next August. Do I want her to go to a private one with an expensive, old fashioned uniform that keeps her well covered. Or will she go to the local free school where girls often wear mini skirts and half-tied ties as part of the more flexible uniform along with all sorts of piercings and outlandish hair colours. How much does the uniform really affect the actual education? How much will it affect my own stress levels to have her dressing in a way that we don't like?
