I must agree.....a fake shooter makes things way too realistic for young children.  I also think that schools need to pay for their subs to be instructed on what to do in case of an intruder in the building.  I know that it would cost.....but in an emergency do we really have time to read the sub manual?!?!?

Funny you should mention this, because my youngest son's school just had a "lockdown drill" yesterday. But it definitely did not involve a fake gunman;. That is going too far, in my opinion. That could definitely be VERY scary to elementary school kids! If they really feel like they need that element of the drill, they should limit it to drills with the employees only, not the kids at school.

i think it is not only important for the teachers to know what to do, but i think it is important for the children to know what to do as well. but i don't like the idea of a fake gunman... at least not in the elementary schools

Our schools have had it for years. It is run like tornado or fire drills. When a tornado touched down near the Jr high tearing up trees and blowing in doors, the kids behaved well because of the training. It would be the same for this. I used to help run a playgroup at church that had a school and we had to participate. It was just a drill but we had a job to do.
