Since I only have boys, I'm always a bit in the dark about many of the body issues girls are struggling with today. For example, I only just recently learned about "thinspiration" a year or so ago. Today, I read about the "thigh gap"::

Wow. How do you all handle self-esteem/body image issues with your girls? And what did the article mean by "thigh gap is new black" ?

Her last doctor's appointment told her that she was overweight.  I would care less about the weight and I care more about healthy habits like exercise, portion control, etc.  Especially since she is heading to college next year.  I think that she is totally beautiful....and so sad that when she saw her senior pics she saw a fat girl with fat arms....We had them retaken againand I'll post one of them....can't post them all as there are 42 to choose from!  Not sure if this will work.....my MIL said that they had problems but this is the Public link to the album on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151868173009427.1073741831.673184426&type=1&l=45ee81a73a

Wow! She looks absolutely beautiful in that senior pic! To me, she looks like the perfect weight there- not sickly/thin looking but not overweight either. I SO wish she could see it the same way :(

Some days it is so hard and I must admit if your child has a weight issue it is even harder to address this issue without causing more damage.  We've been dealing with senior pictures in our house.  My daughter is having problems with her weight as she has stopped growing and grew really fast when she was younger.  She was able to eat almost anything and not have a weight issue.....but alas this now is not the case.  Her senior pics are absolutely beautiful.  But she hates them because she says that they make her look fat.  I'm trying to use these pictures as a motivational tool to look better by the end of the year with exercise....and her friend is trying to put her on this absolutely crazy diet where she will lose weight quickly....but will not learn healthy eating habits.  It's become such a struggle....and I don't want it to be a power struggle.  It's so hard when so many girls in the school are wearing a size 0 to put a realistic body size to a girl who is overweight. And then throw in that she is 5 ft 11 inches tall, has man size hands  and wears a size 11 shoe......which makes her stand out even more,  and that throws another hurdle for body image into the mix.    I'll post her picture too so you can see what she looks like.
