I have owned my Kindle for exactly 13 months and it died yesterday.

Oh no! So sorry to hear that! We just bought my mom the Kindle 4 with Special offers for $79. So if you don't want to stay with the refurb that might be an option.

My DH has the Kindle 2 and that has survived being dropped (once) and water pouring over it (while in the case) when our house got flooded!

Don't forget all your books are archived so it will be super easy to get them back on the new kindle. You won't have lost any books =)

I got my refurb today and it looks new so maybe they send out new ones but who knows. I'll find out if it dies soon. LOL! So all my books are downloadable to it again but all the books that I have were in various "collections" and now I have to re-file all of them. I was just trying to figure out which ones I haven't read yet! The ones I read I'm not so worried about. I have about 200 books on the Kindle. They have renamed the Kindles now. The one I have used to be Kindle Latest Generation. Now it's Kindle Keyboard. I never could figure out what's so great with the keyboard since I only use the Kindle to read but whatever - LOL!

It's definitely possible that it could be new!

That's the only downside - you'll have to recreate your collection folders and move the books back into them. Which gives me the idea that we should keep a spreadsheet with the collection names and books to make it easier for replacing/upgrading.

I have the DX and rarely use the keyboard. DH is upgrading to the Touch so his K2 will be for the kids.

oh my gosh! I would be absolutely lost if my Nook died! Glad you got the "new" one. That completely stinks about having to reorganize all those books though!

Yeah I was totally freaking out when I didn't have my Kindle! It was gone only 2 days but I was miserable - LOL!

I wonder if you save your collections onto a SD drive, would they stay in their separate folders and if something happens to the e-Reader you just insert the removable drive and reload?
