This is one of Janet Evanovich's early romance novels that has been reprinted. Even though it's not the length or in-depth story of her later novels, Evanovich's talent as a writer shines through. The characters are quirky and imperfect: the heroine draws cartoons, plays with toys, and won his money in the lottery. He is a refreshing change from the billionaire cowboy/business tycoon you see in so many other romance novels. The heroine is a frizzy redheaded (young Janet?) cello player. She's an overachiever, he's a slacker, and while there's never any doubt they'll get together, there's lots of fun and laughs on the way. There's an appearance by Elsie Hawkins, a character who Evanovich says appears in several novels and was the prototype for Grandma Mazur. The book is worth reading just for Elsie alone. The plot is simple and the book won't change your life, but it's a blast to read if you aren't looking for something too heavy.
