This is suppose to be the new teenage read. There are three books in this series and I'm on the wait list for book 2. 11yo wants it yesterday! LOL
Anyhow, this book is about American being rebuilt after something destroyed pretty much all civilization. The new country is called Parem or something like that with a capital city and 12 (once 13) outlying communities. The communities rebelled and the Capital City beat them back - even destroying district 13. Every year the communities have to join the hunger games, where they all put up 2 kids between the ages of 11 and 18 for the competition. These 24 kids go to some arena and battle to the death. The winner goes home to a life of luxury. I will warn you that the first few pages made me cry a lot.
It is worth the read.
Read this pretty much in one day.
I have put this book off just as I did with twilight, but i think ill start it tonight. They are starting to cast people and I like to read a book to get my opinion of the characters before the movie puts it into my head.
Mockingjay was just as good as the other two. My 11yo ds enjoyed all three books too!
I just finished 'Catching Fire' - the 2nd book in the series and have Mockingjay on order at the library. They've been interesting so far!
