Depth of Field:

The amount of distance between the nearest and farthest objects that appear in acceptably sharp focus in a photograph. Depth of field depends on the lens opening, the focal length of the lens, and the distance from the lens to the subject.

One of my favorites, too! I like the storytelling aspect of it and the framing possibilities.

Usually, I use the AV mode to select the aperature value and let the camera automatically set the best time value to go with it, unless I have a lot of time and a willing subject to play around in full-on manual mode.

Here are a few examples. These are photos of the activity at the pottery painting studio more than the people, but I used the paintbrushes to frame the people.

These are great and the AV mode is definately a good way to go. I really like the way the blue handles of the paint brushes stand out so much!!
