William Morris- Decluttering Challenge.

Ok, several of us keep talking about moving piles, decluttering parts of of our homes, rotating schedules of what to clean... and there seemed to be interest when I brought this up in chat.

Jules of Pancakes and French Fries blog challenged herself to complete a task each day in October (!!!) to live up to this William Morris Quote:

Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

–William Morris.

I love it. It leaves a lot of leeway - if you love it/think it is beautiful, but not useful, it still fits, no?

Here is the first of her posts in October, with her reasoning. http://pancakesandfrenchfries.com/2011/10/day-1-31-days-of-william-morris/ I LOVE that she made a list of her projects, so that she can pick and choose, plan for others...you know there are some projects that you have to be in the RIGHT mood for. Some of her projects were simple, like cleaning the kitchen cabinets, baseboards, etc. Or cleaning out ONE bathroom drawer. Progress is progress my friends!

Here is her current post on the subject. http://pancakesandfrenchfries.com/2012/01/the-william-morris-project2012/

The gist is that she will do one project a week and post on Thursdays. Last night most everyone said Thursdays would not work. I think the actual date you do your project on doesn't matter. You could have all week, and post on the day you complete your project, or bythe end of the week.

Interested?

What day do you want to post by?

Photos, or not?

Post your list of projects here? Assuming they will evolve as we finish some and add others.

Karen also found a faith based blog that will be doing a decluttering challenge for a few weeks, starting... next week, or the

Post by: Friday night? So we have the weekend and all week to do the project, take photo, find time to post?

I'm all for photos, but I do know there will be one or two projects where I will NOT be showing the before, only the piles going out and the finished project!

I'm all for posting my projects for a little more accountability, and possibly making them more manageable. It will be nice to see the crossed off items increasing...

Sounds intriguing! And I have a mental list of projects I want to tackle (and have been meaning to put down on paper!). Some are decluttering, some are home improvement.

As for the day of the week I'd prefer Friday (since that's my no-teaching day next semester) or the weekend. I think it would be cool to post a list of projects that we can keep editing as we complete tasks or add more. Not sure if I would always be able to post a photo, but I'll try!

I'm good with Fridays ... and making an editable list ... and sometimes photos, but I don't automatically think to stop and take before and after pictures. I'm kind of a dig in as part of my routine kind of girl, so you *might* get after pictures. Maybe. ;) Regardless, I'm willing to give it a go. Will start working on my list .....

Friday works for me, too!! (Then we'd have until the following Thursday to complete... is that the idea?)

I think photos are an added bonus, but not necessary.
I'm ok with posting my list.

I'm not sure if the last part was done for my benefit or not, but please don't ever worry about offending me -- if you want to post the blog link, go right ahead! :D I have a pin on pinterest that I might post, too -- lots of good general ideas of where to start with the list.

Yipeeeeeee! I love organizing!!!

Jill, may I just say that I appreciate you? Because I do. And I do want to be respectful of your feelings and your beliefs, but I appreciate that you accept us for who we are, too. I just want you to know that means a lot to me. That's all. :)

There's also something on Pinterest about 40 Bags in 40 Days where you purge your house of 40 bags worth of stuff in ... 40 days ... profound, huh? ;o) We could keep that in mind for a challenge at some point if you want ... doesn't have to be 40 ... could be like 600 ... ;) ... or 10. LOL

That's the one I have on pinterest, I think? I meant to go look earlier & forgot. But I also stalk iheartorganizing & a few other house-related blogs, so I might have more, too. :D

This is very interesting.
I am not sure that I could come up with much of a list right now.
Will have to think on it some. :)
