Is anyone here involved in an Artist Trading Card Swap Group of any kind?  I've been doing a little research on them in the last few hours (bonfire .... Cowboy taking girls home ... then going somewhere to eat (?) ... yeah ... see Idle Chit Chat later), and I was wondering about us doing swaps here.  It sounds kind of fun, and a lot like the books we did when we met last year.

So I've been thinking about this ATC business.  (I laid down, and I did doze off, but not the full 30 minutes, and it took a few minutes to quiet my brain.  And then I took a shower and got ready ... had some time then.)  I often want to scrap something that comes up during my quiet time ... or doodle pray ... or scrap a thought.  It seems like ATCs would be good for that.  For a few minutes of focused scrapping to do something I can carry with me through the day, perhaps.  And God knows there are plenty of trading card pages around here ... I could put some in a binder, and make an album of those with dividers, if I wanted, for different reasons behind the cards.  And I'm thinking these are things I could then post on my blog now and then.  So .... yeah ... I'm kind of excited about this concept.

And I'm still interested in trading them (since I know that's the point of ATCs anyway).  I was thinking we could take turns with a theme like we each had a theme for our circle journals -- only everyone would get one, and set a deadline, and then make our cards and send them by the end of the deadline.  i.e.  Jill might take October, and set her theme by Oct. 1st, and we would all have until Oct. 31st to make our card to fit her theme, and then mail our cards out to each of the others participating.  In the meantime, maybe Karen would set November's theme, and then on November 1st, we would start the cards that go with her theme.  Then on November 30th, we would mail our cards out to each of the other participants.  That way, each month, each person participating would get a card done by each of the other participants on the same theme.  They wouldn't be EXACTLY alike, but they'd be darn close ... once you created your idea, you would just make several of the same one ... like Missy's invitations to Gigi's party.  I think that could be pretty fun!  And who doesn't like to get FUN mail?!?!?!?  And maybe in December we either don't do any (because that month is NUTS) or we each send an individual trading card on a Christmas theme of our own choosing ... like making Christmas "cards" except "ATCs".

Any takers?  O.K., I know I'm hitting you with this out of nowhere and then coming back with more before you've even had a chance to respond, but ... I'm excited.  And I also know I'm probably the least prolific in the scrappy department, but I think a single theme on an ATC done a few times over each month would not be that hard.  We could give it a trial run for a few months and see how people feel about it.  I mean ... for those who are interested.  I do think we would need to commit to it for at least as many months as there are people participating (December notwithstanding), then look at it, and see if we want to continue.  It probably needs to be at least three to five of us to make it fun(?).

Alright, I'll shut up now.  LOL  I need to go to work anyway.  :smileytongue:  Give it some thought.  Let me know what you think.  I'm going to make some ATCs regardless.  We'll see what happens .........  Oh, my!  I REALLY need to go!  BYE!

I love the idea. The girls were involved in an ATC swap once, a few years ago.

We used to do all sorts of swaps here, when there were more people (which did lend to flakers, etc.) but I think we can trust those of us who are here now, and perhaps we might pull someone else out of the woodwork.

Initially I thought "OMG not until after November" but ATC's I could do. MAKE me be creative, and I love that they don't have to be identical. More like paintings in a series similar. Something that can emerge over time, a little at a time. Me likely. I'm on board!

would we each sign up each time or is it a one time sign up and then we do it for a full year?

Lovely idea. :smileyhappy:

I'm thinking we sign up for one round, and then decide whether or not we opt in for the next one. One round = one month per person participating w/ December not counting. So ... right now it's you and MJ and Karen and me. If we started in October, one round would be October, November, December, January, and February. That way, each of us would get to choose one theme, and December could either be a generic Christmas theme or a skip. We would decide that together. In February, we could post a sign up for the next round to start in March, assuming this goes well, and we enjoy it. :smileyhappy:

I think this is something she could work on when she is heeeeeerrrre, if she wants to join in right away! But I also don't see a problem if someone needs to not do a month.

If there were 4 of us, but Missy knows October is too busy (except for bein' here in Iowa) and Karen knows January would be crazy, then we know we just make/swap out 3 ATCs instead of 4. We get out of it what we put in.

A question, as I think about the swapping. I assume we are just going to mail each other? In some of the more elaborate/well participated swaps we used to do all items would be mailed to a central person. ie: one package per participant to mail, coordinator would make sure everything arrived, repackage, and mail each person one package. We'd have to include postage for our return package, of course... But with our smaller numbers my preference would be just that I mail out 3, 4, 5 little envelopes to whoever is participating, and then I get all those happy little envelopes coming back to me.

Just something to keep in mind if we hit 10 participants at some point, but in that case then we only have to be the mail coordinator once in 10 months, so not a big deal.
