Film or digital to get good photos you still have to have good light. I never, after trying it once ever took pictures in the gym at school. Or any other big space inside unless I could get close enought to the subject.

What I used to do was to take a picture of the kids at home in their costume that way I had a good photo and you can put it in the book with the program just to make note of the night.

These photos were from when I had a bad camera and no training! LOL
I can easily take photos now from the back of the room in bad lighting if I have all the correct settings!

Welcome to the board. We hope to hear more from you!

I joined iVillage either in 1999 or 2000 somewhere in there..

I am just a mother and I only scrapped our first daughters first 2 years after that it was kind of a hassle. I had 5 kids that would be a lot of stuff. LOL

Now I have 15 grandkids... and 2 great grands....

I never really did do scrapping mostly I did general crafts, making cards, I made all the kids clothes till they were in about the 4th grade then it was not cool anymore... My husband and I did a lot of wood crafts...a lot of yard ornaments, I still like plastic canvas and painting but by spending out summers at our camper and not having a lot of room there crafts kind of got put on the back shelf.

If you would like to see our wood stuff and some of the other things I did I think

I am far from a pro at photos but I got my first camera when I was about 8 it used 620 film.....Wow.....but after going through the old photos you won't find a lot of me because the folks got a new camera one time I can't remember the name but it started with an A. And I really liked it so mom let me take some photos and they turned out really well. So you would hear mom say, "everyone get in here Janet wants to take your picutre"......so a lot of 5 kids the oldest one was taking the picutres. There ended up being 6 of us kids my mom and I each had a baby in Oct. of 1964.

One thing I always thought was odd, is that when you see family photos you see head to toe and you can barely see who is who if at all and I hated that. So I would look in the viewfinder till I had everyone in there from the waist. The I would tilt the camera slightly up and I never cut a head off. And some of the older family members with their really expencive camers used to get upset because when they got home they had cut heads off.lol....

With digital it seems that that isn't a problem anymore what you see in the screen probably is what you are going to get... I never use the screen I still just use the viewfinder.....but now I have a digital SLR love it. When you are used to so many years of focusing the lens the first digital I had was just a point and shoot and I was forever trying to adjust the lens.....Old habits I guess.

Most of the time when we have family in once spot I make everyone go outside. That way I don't have to worry about floresent lights or flashing off of their glasses......what makes it nice is that my side of the family for the last few years have given up trying to have everyone in one spot at Christmas we are talking a lot of people and it just isn't fair to have it in someones house...so we dumped the gifts and the tree and have a shelter house at the park in July. We love it. And I have gotten some pictures of the kids of the kids of the kids if you know what I mean and they are worth more than anything, because for one thing their parents don't know what they were doing untill I email pictures......lol.....Yes I help them get into trouble ....a little.

Most of the time I like to go take a drive out off the highway and get photos of stuff. A poor Charlie Brown tree or one that was struck by lightening.....My DD#1 used to look at my new photos and say OH, you to pictures of ....................trees.....lol

Thanks MJ, I opted not to scrap them. My DD had constant concerts so there are plenty of photos. I am being alot choosier now than I used to be. and I no longer feel like I have to scrap every photo or every event, or included all 300 photos I took of ONE event! LOL

Thanks for the encouragment!

I'm glad you made a decision. It's hard to figure out sometimes. I know I've gone places with the boys and took only blurry pics but kept a few of them anyhow just because I wanted to remember the event.

I'm so far behind that I'm intimidated to get back to scrapping - but I got a Cricut for Christmas so I better get to work on it!

Wendy when I started scrapbooking it was 2003, so I started out 10 years behind!!!
I worked really hard for a while, then went through a divorce and things fell apart for a couple years. Now I have 6 months til DD has her official ceremony for High School, and I have 6 years to scrap! LOL If I can do it anyone can! Grab some photos and a new cricut cartridge and jump in!
