ok so you all know i have had problems learning new things, layers, and using tutorials in general, but i wanted to show you all my hard work, layers, masks, and drop shadows!!!! its not perfect but its a looong way from where i have come. special thanks to: Anne, Ruby, Pam, Liz, Katie and Shiya, and everyone else who has helped me learn and excel!!!

I would suggest you pull the shadow in a bit and lighten it as well. Also, I think you might have cropped off the "&" a wee bit somehow. I don't know how that's possible without the shadow being cropped as well so I think a Gimp user will have to help you with that one.
I change the shadow size to a smaller number and lighten it.
The default settings are just suggestions for size, distance, opacity
of the shadow.
You should try different numbers and see which one
works best.

Looks good, Kels! I do agree with everyone else, though, that you may want to reign in the shadow a bit. I usually set my numbers as 2, 2, and 4 for shadows, with the opacity at 30-40.
And as the cutting off part of the "&" in the text and not in the shadow: my guess is you cropped your image before you added the shadow. When you created the drop shadow, there's a box that says something like "resize" (I'm on my computer, so I don't know exactly right now). If this box is checked, then it resizes the canvas to the shadow layer's size. Uncheck it, and it doesn't change the size of your canvas at all.
thanks everyone! i know its not perfect, but im tickeld pink to have figured all this out,i have been working hard in the last month on layers itself, and now the text... im just so excited to use them on siggs once i tweek them some!!!

i used my erasser tool a LOT when i was first doing siggs, lol, i still do, but if you want a photo to be a different or irregular shape try errasing untill you can master some other skills. this also was helpful when i had a frame and only wanted to use part of a photo and is great for cut outs where you take the person alll the way out of a photo. i will be the first one to tell you that my way isnt the right way, but if i can use it to a photo the shape i want, (didnt use layers for a year, i just had like 30 windows open with each part and then copy and paseted everything lol) then im still happy.
Everything looks great!! Especially you! Feel free to use your new skillz on me anytime!!
