is this ugly?

I can't decide if I like it or if I hate it... I'm hoping for pink and should find out on the 6th, so I was playing around and made this. But I can't decide if it's ugly. Plus I hate that my name looks jagged, I'm using gimp and I have that box checked, when I uncheck it, it's worse, I wonder if it's just the text... oh well, is it ugly? or is it just uhh not right. I'm trying to learn, I really need to learn how to work with pics!!! I have been unsuccessful at reshaping or anything with them :( I guess I'll just stick with names until I get to where I'm liking them, then I'll try and learn more.

Torie, don't be so hard on yourself..we are our own worst critics. I think it's really cute, simple and to the point..my only suggestion would be to erase the bubbles that are getting cut off... you know two on the top and and 3 on the bottom..:) once you do that..i think it will look even better.:)
And you know..this is the perfect place to learn..at least you are asking for suggestions and you just started..you can only get better..kwim?

I agree with Ruby.

I agree with Ruby. Just always make sure the elements aren't getting cut off around the edges. You will master everything else with time! GOOD job for a first siggy. We all start off rusty (and yours is ABSOLUTELY better than most newbies!). Keep at it girl!

I think it looks good as well, Torie. I second Ruby's suggestion to just erase the bubbles that are getting cut off. It looks way better than my first attempts! And I'm impressed that you tackled a name-only. I still struggle with those.

Have you checked out the GIMP tutorials above? Several of us here use GIMP, and we're always willing to help out!

it looks good, and i agree with the rest about erasing the bubbles that are cut off. i use Gimp, and i see what you mean by your name.... maybe you re sized the sigg after you put in the text? thats the only thing i can think of ATM that makes fuzzy edges. other than that i think it is REALLY cute!!! great idea!! keep on trying and ive been using Gimp for a while and i still ask questions, so dont be so hard on yourself.

No, it's not ugly, Torie. Not in the slightest! I've seen a LOT worse than that from people who've been making for a lot longer than you have. At least you're asking if it's ugly (which it isn't!) and not just making ugly sigs and thinking they look wonderful!

Ruby's already mentioned the cut off bubbles so let me see if I can help with the text. First, is your anti-aliasing box checked? If it is and the text still looks jaggy, is your image in RGB colour mode? If it's CMYK, the text won't anti-alias.

Torie I <3 you girl but you are so hard on yourself! That does not look bad at all and the tags you made for TTCAM & PAL are so cute. Trust me.. as makers we've all made some really ugly sigs before. If you want to see ugly go to the do your worst thread (of course that was on purpose!) All it takes is practice. Actually the text you used for your name doesn't look bad at all. I'm not familiar with Gimp but don't hesitate to ask for help. That's what we are all here for. If you got any questions feel free to ask away!

It looks great for a first sig. Certain fonts aren't super clean. I've found quite a few that have jagged edges. So I'd suggest changing the font, and seeing if it's still jagged. I agree with the previous people that said to try the tutorials. There are 5 or 6 of us that use Gimp, and would be glad to help. The tutorials are what got me started making sigs. You can also Google "gimp tutorials" and a whole bunch of sites come up with tutorials how to do different things in gimp. Let us know any questions you have, and we will try to help. :0)
