Now, I love me some Christmas, but that was a whole lot of holiday spirit last night on The Voice. The evening kicked off with a performance from the one only Michael Bublé singing -- what else? -- a Christmas song, specifically “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” The man’s got a holiday special to promote, after all (did anyone stick around for Michael Bublé: Home for the Holidays? No shame!). The crowd went nuts for Bublé (or, as I like to think of him, Bubbly), didn’t they? I mean, there were some Twilight level shrieks coming from that mosh pit of tweens. Who knew Bublé was such a ladykiller? And can we talk about that fog machine? I was afraid the backup singers were going to drown.
Carson did his routine pass through the coaches -- who were looking mighty dapper, if I may say so. Adam’s advice for Cee Lo? “Just keep doing what Cee Lo’s doing and everything will be fine.” Cee Lo’s so completely on his own planet that the other coaches refer to him in the third person. When Christina’s time came, she used her thirty seconds to gush about the boys (never mind that I just did that). Carson tried to get her to answer the question -- namely, what advice she had for Blake -- but she responded with her usual Xtina sass. “Blake, you would know better because you still have a team left.” Ouch, bitter much, lady?
Trevin Hunte of Team Cee Lo was up first with a Bette Midler classic, “Wind Beneath My Wings.” My only experience with this song comes from that Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode where Spike reveals that it’s Buffy’s choice for her wedding dance (love you Spike!), but even I know it’s a cliché. The coaches loved it however, with Adam trying to take credit for the song, claiming he’d suggested it to some “friend” earlier this week. Suuure, Adam. Meanwhile, Christina launched into one of her usual stories about how when she was 7, she used to sing it to ailing dolphins at Sea World (I may have exaggerated that a tad). Enough about me, what do you think about me? Finally, Cee Lo added that he finds Trevin’s voice “amazingly beautiful.” Ladies and gents, do we have a winner already?
