I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this......

Do any of you feel that Christmas has become too commercialized?

In a way. I don't know if people themselves feel more materialistic than they used to, but I KNOW retailers have become more money-hungry! I think they start Christmas stuff way to early! Some had things out before Halloween! That's totally uncalled for. It only puts pressure on people to buy more.

But most people I know still keep the feeling of family and traditions ahead of greed and overspending. I know I don't care what I get, or if I get anything, as long as I can spend time with my daughter and her dh over the holiday. And, as far as I've seen, my friends and neighbors feel the same.

The only problem I have is I just feel that stores start putting out Christmas stuff earlier and earlier.

I feel it is too commercialized. The ads and merchandise are out way too early and if you have little kids it is hard for them to wait so long for Christmas. I do not decorate until after Thanksgiving and do it for the kids. Christmas is about family and the time to spend with one another and that seems to be out of the picture. I get my shopping done by December 1st so we can do holiday stuff together like sleigh rides, looking at our neighbor's lights, Christmas concerts, craft fairs, going to the Christmas tree farm, getting cider and picking out our tree and bringing it home. We do this all together (except the craft fairs which the guys go shopping then)including my 15 year old daughter and almost 13 year old son who do admit they enjoy this stuff still! That is what keeps the spirit alive for us and I just sigh and feel bad about all this materialistic stuff going on and the ones really missing out on the holiday and all its fun! They say you will not really remember all the toys you received which I know I just remember the special few but the great memories you created. Sorry, soapbox issue for me here and climbing down now.
