Julie, I am very sorry. Our dalmation died in 2002 and my DH had her for 15 years and it was very hard for him. Our kids were young but still to this day my DD, who is now 5, asks us about her and wants to make sure that she's still in doggie heaven. It's hard losing a pet. When I was a teenager I lost my cat and it was difficult for me. I hope everything turns out OK for you guys. You are in my prayers and (((((HUGS))))) to you and your family.

I'm sorry, Julie. That can be really hard.

One of my cats died over spring break this year when we were up in Portland looking at houses. My oldest ds's best friend was watching her and called to tell me. It didn't hit me, though, until we got home and I went looking for her. She was nearly 16 and went really fast too. The odd part was I gave her some extra petting before we left. I just had a feeling I might not see her again. Her sister is still alive, but I worry every time I go looking for her newest sleeping place. :o(

I'm so sorry. I know how quickly cats can get ill. I had a cat a few years ago who went from "perfect health" (the vet said) to deathly ill - in one day! (her story is "Jasmine", on the "In Memory" page of my website, if you want to see and read more about her).

I know it's hard to get used to not having your cat, but try to take comfort in knowing you gave your cat a long, happy life and let him go gracefully and with dignity when he could no longer go on.

My thoughts and condolences to you and your family.

I am so sorry! I know what you are talking about when your 12 yr old takes awhile to get over stuff like this. My dd is the same way and we have a 16 old cat whom dh and I don't think will make it much longer. She is really attached to him and I have been trying to let her know he is getting older and he might now be with us much longer. But it doesnt' really sink in until he is gone does it. My prayers are with you and your family that you find peace for your lose.

Julie, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. It is so hard to lose a pet. I haven't had to deal with this for a number of years now but I still remember about 9 years ago losing my lifelong cat and it was really hard for me. I haven't had to deal with this issue with my kids yet - we had just gotten 2 new cats before my son was born - so I'm sending lots of extra hugs for your children as well.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have 4 cats and just lost one (#5). She just came up missing one day. She was 15 yo. So I think she wondered off to die. It's so hard when your so attached to these animals. It's like losing a part of the family. (((HUGS TO EVERYONE)))!!

I'm so sorry. We lost our "first born" suddenly, several years ago. She had developed a brain tumor, but had no symptoms until one morning when she just seemed confused. We took her to the vet, and they were astonished that she was still alive - the tumor was huge. We selfishly brought her home that night because we just weren't ready to accept things, but had to bring her back in the middle of the night because she was clearly in pain (oh, crap, now I'm crying).

Anyway - my heart goes out to you and your family. It's so hard to lose these furry little creatures who bring us so much joy.
