Lay it on me, Part 2

I've heard a few people mention that they're only can see new threads, not replies, so I'm starting a new thread to answer more questions, just to be safe.

Have I shared the thread where you can check for updates on various bug fixes? I'm starting to forget who I've told what, lol. Is it Friday yet?

http://www.ivillage.com/forums/ivillage-women/around-ivillage/ivillage-help/ivillage-help/message-board-fixes-updates#new

Okay, here are some additional questions I've seen- if you don't see yours answered, please don't hesitate to ask again. I'm trying to make it to each of my boards at least once a day but am also answering people through email and PM's too. Smile

Changing Font Colors: It's a feature that they will have to build and add on later.(After all the major bugs and other craziness dies down). I agree, it was nice to have.

Editing a Post: Yep, you should be able to edit your own post. I just tested it in a non-moderator name and was able to.

Replying to Yourself: This is on the list of 'known bugs"

Newest to Oldest Not Sticking: is this for replies (where it says "Views replies by", right next to "itmes per page".) or for threads? (the option that appears under "thread options"). Unforunately, I don't have a time frame for it to start "sticking". It's definitely on the list of bugs but probably not as high of a priority as fixing all the issues on the mobile site, for example.

Speaking of issues on the mobile site... I don't own an iPad (sniff!) so I don't have a lot of first-hand knowledge about the issues but I do know it's pretty high on the priority list. I also found a thread about it on the iVillage Help board :

http://www.ivillage.com/forums/ivillage-women/around-ivillage/ivillage-help/ivillage-help/mobile-site-fixes#new

Threads remembering where you left off: aka, "thread memory". Jessica Dukes, our Community Director talked aobut a "Mark as New/Mark as Read" feature in the thread I linked to above but I *think* what you're asking about is different, right? To me, "mark as new/red", is what you can select for whole threads but "thread memory" is for the actual messages in a thread, and it remembers for you where you left off. I'll be sure to ask about it!

How to Bookmark a board in Chrome: scroll down the board a bit, at the bottom of the list of threads, you'll see "see all threads on this board". Click on that. You'll then see "Board Options"- mouse over that and in the drop down menu you'll see the option to subscribe.

Subscribe: It's a feature where if you are subscribed to a thread, you'll receive an email when a new reply is posted. Unfortunately, it's currently not working but it's definitely on the "known issues" list.

As always, thanks so so so so much for your patience! Things are getting better everyday. I know a major bug was fixed just today (login issues using Internet Explorer were fixed).

First off I c/p your reply instead of quote,
Will all that *extra* stuff be in quote always?
Like brackets, html stuff, <> that kind of stuff?
Does make it hard to read when someone has quoted ..

Yes you shared that link but thank you for sharing again.

Can we still edit subjects/titles too?

Replying to Yourself: This is on the list of 'known bugs"
Does that mean eventually it will reply to whom we want?

Newest to Oldest Not Sticking: is this for replies (where it says "Views replies by", right next to "itmes per page".) or for threads? (the option that appears under "thread options"). OK I meant both in seeing newest to oldest.
However I did it on the right from edit prefences & it IS sticking, YaY!

Sorry on the no ipad .. maybe from Santa if you're good <wink>
OK on my ipad I can open a thread but not see any replies :(
With regards to phones ..I can't find how to get there/here from my cell.
Have been to that link you shared & got lost ::blush::

Yes would be nice to mark read if we have read so we don't have to reread.

Subscribed took me to another iv page.
I was asking how to save this board in my favorites in chorme like we have in IE & FF

Subscribe: It's a feature where if you are subscribed to a thread, you'll receive an email when a new reply is posted. Unfortunately, it's currently not working but it's definitely on the "known issues" list.
OK so emails are going to happen again?

What about threads that won't go to the next/last page?  Working soon?  Known bug?

that's it for now more later I am sure <g>
Thank you for all your help .. much appreciated ;)

Whenever I try to change anything in my preferences I get this message:

  • The e-mail address _____________ is already taken.
  • The signature is too long: it must be 255 characters or less.

I know i'm not the only one getting it, but is there a time frame on fixing it?  I cannot display my siggy or change the replies per page number.  Have to keep changing it for every thread if I want to read more than 10 at a time.  Yes, that "thread memory"  you mentioned would good to have again, too.  Makes life so much simpler & posts easier to read.

Thanks for the updates.  It's good to know things are improving.

It's almost midnight here but I wanted to make sure I stopped by at least once today Smile

Many of the answers to your questions (such as the issue of some threads not opening ) are answered in the latest update, located in this new thread:

http://www.ivillage.com/forums/ivillage-women/around-ivillage/ivillage-help/ivillage-help/message-board-update-101912

Other misc answers:

Sweetrose007x- What browser are you using? Can you try clearing your cache and cookies? Surprisngly, that has helped quite a few people today!

Ludam- I can't remember at the moment if there was a time frame mentioned for the "can't change preferences" bug but I definitely know it was talked about in that new thread I linked to above. I know it's frustrating to not be able to change anything right now or get it to "stick". Frown

Editing title/subject lines- Yep, you can do this. Just tested it a minute ago and was able to.

Extra stuff when quoting- It's weird, I never see this when I just quote one post but if I quote a post that has already quoted someone else, then I see it. is this what happens for ya'll too?

Replying to yourself- Yes, I'm almost positive that the way it's supposed to work is that you'll be able to reply to who you want. But I'll ask just to make sure.

How to bookmark in Chrome- At the end of the URL line, you should see a star. Click on that and it will bookmark a page for you.

Subscribe- I got a few subscription emails today! I was so stinking excited, LOL. Here's what I did:

- go to My Bookmarks and Subscriptions

- Click on Tab 2

- You should see a list of threads you've hit "subscribe" to, while in the thread.

- Click on Edit

- Under "send method", choose "HTML mail" from the dropdown menu.

Disclaimer- it's definitely still buggy, you may not get all the notices but it's definitely starting to work some!

::Yawn:: Night, everyone! As always, let me know if you have any additional questions or if I forgot something.

When I use quote the first time I see *stuff* in it everytime.
Quote option is not user friendly & is confusing really :(

About subscribing ..
Do you do this for each thread to get emails?
LOL on being excited .. I would too if I got any <g>

Thanks for your help & hope you can sleep in today :)

Yeah, it's definitely still buggy, sometimes I hit subscribe and nothing happens. Sometimes, I see in green letters at the top that says something like "you've successfully subscribed to the thread". I seem to have more success using Chrome vs Firefox or IE. Even if you click it and it doesn't do anything, still check under tab 2 and see if it worked.

Okay, I just tested it for this thread. Went to thread options, clicked subscribe, got the message in green letters that said "Your subscription was successfully submitted".  It's also showing under Tab 2. **Woah--- my font is in green now b/c I copied and pasted that subscription message in green***

Coffee Break

Darn. Tried copying & pasting something that were in blue in hope it would change my font blue but it didn't work. Thought maybe I had stubmled onto a work around for colored font! Well, we know how to get green now, LOL!
