When a book can evoke laughter and tears, I usually consider it a winner. Books that leave me thinking about it long after I've finished reading it are usually gems too.

Great question!

I like to relax and go to that place for a short while too, especially waiting in a long line at the checkout.

The type of books I like to read either take me away to somewhere that I want to be, like at a coastal beach town somewhere...or...they are about types or groups or cultures of people that I enjoy learning more about...or they teach me something new about any interesting subject...and...they thoroughly entertain me with taking me away from real life.

Hey! I get that feeling when I finish a good book. It is hard to start another one.
Now I have 3 books going so I can keep going.

When I can't put it down because I want to see what happens, I consider it a good book.

If it seems a chore to pick it up and continue reading it, then I usually don't.

I did that for awhile a few years ago, always had 2 or 3 books going at the same time. One or two were novels and the other was a non-fiction. It got to be too much, though, and I had to stop doing that. Now I only have one novel at a time going plus another that is a "pick up-put down" informational type that I read a bit of now and then.
