With the Summer Solstice comes renewal and new life, right? Well, I just wanted to post that my 15dd - the one who was lured over the internet - is doing well. She has finished school, though has to take summer school class for algebra, and is looking forward to her dividing her time between her regular job at the pizza restaurant and volunteering at the dog kennel. She has been opening up to me a little more, not without some struggles along the way, but she is on the mend - we're taking it day by day and sometimes it seems like we take two steps forward and one step back, but for the most part, we're all doing better.
Our pool is open and up and we put the solar cover on it to warm it up a bit. We've been in it but the water is still a bit chilly yet. Our gardens are in bloom, the veggies are coming up and I absolutely just LOVE sitting on my patio and taking it all in!
Your view of the patio, garden, and pool sounds beautiful. If you invite me, I'd love to come for a visit. ;-) Ya know, high school is the age of rebellion, independence, and learning from stupid mistakes. Believe me, as the years go by, your relationship will continue to bloom and improve. Just hang in there and always keep your ears wide open, but don't sacrifice discipline and parenting for friendship. When I look back I see that my mom was great even when I thought she was just being mean.
I'm happy that I'm getting along with my stepkids great this week. We had a great time this past weekend. I'm learning to leave my attitude at the door (or take it out on DH; gotta work on that). Then my baby boy is taking his first steps. It's just a matter of time before he is walking. Life is good and God is great. :-)
This is a great thread! Thanks!!!
Being a step parent is tricky, I'm glad you're finding you way. My H is stepdad to my 2 dd's, has been for about 12 years and it's only now that it's gotten to be a real challenge, but he's finding his way, one day at a time.
And if you're ever in CT let me know - we could have cold tea on the patio!
The good would be that we finally have a place to live. Our old place was being sold, and the past month/month and a half has been really crazy. We moved out of our small one bedroom apartment the begining of May only to find out that as soon as we started moving in, someone looked at our house and decided they wanted to buy it (We were renting) so we had a month to get out. We looked and looked and couldn't find a place and finally the day we HAD to be out we found a place and told the landlord we needed another week to move and now we're finally in our place and the moving is over!!!
It's so nice to be able to finally put pictures on the walls and not live out of boxes anymore, although we're still kind of doing that since everything isn't unpacked yet...lol.
