MONDAY, Oct. 3 (HealthDay News) -- More than one in 10 parents don't follow recommended vaccination guidelines for their children, opting instead for an "alternative" schedule that could involve skipping doses or delaying shots.

I always, *always* get the vaccinations on the recommended schedule. I tend to have a strong opinion on this particular issue. When everyone stops doing vaccinations at the appropriate times, they start putting more and more people at risk--including their children. If there is not a proven medical reason/family history for you to delay your vaccinations, I don't even think you should be allowed to personally.

I don't have a strong opinion, but I follow the recommended schedule. I have no fear of the vaccinations they give, nor the times they give them. Overall, my son has been very healthy and I'd like this one to be given the same strength as well.

I might do a delayed schedule this time around. Both of my boys have had all their shots on time but I REALLY don't like the idea of all those shots in their little bodies at one time :( I am going to do some research on different schedules and talk to our ped about it and go from there.

we follow the schedule and get what's recommended. If I had a baby that had a reaction or something, I may alter the schedule some to accommodate what's best for that baby but with 4 so far, that has never happened. I don't really mind those that delay, that is their choice. My kids are vaccinated so I know they are protected.

We follow the alternative/delayed scheduled advocated by Dr. Sears, a prominent and well-respected pediatrician.

Noelle got one vaccine and about 12 hours latter almost died so no vaccines for any of my kids ever after that. I don't want to kill my kids to protect the rest.

I always get them as close as the reccomended schedual. With my older 2 babies, they were preemies and spent time in the NICU - I was a little delayed in getting their vaccinations but they got them. My 3rd had no issues and she got them when she was supposed to.

I agree... There are reasons why certain diseases aren't around anymore.. And when people STOP getting the Vaccinations, guess what will come back???

I will give my baby MOST of the recommended vaccines, but probably not on the recommended schedule. I don't think it's necessary for babies to be given any vaccines at birth.
Bess, I always thought herd immunity would be something favored by those who choose not to vaccinate, since if the majority of the "herd" is vaccinated, those who are not vaccinated are less likely to get sick (since the vaccinated ones won't be spreading disease)? Please don't think I'm judging you or anyone else who chooses not to vaccinate, I think everyone should have a choice, I'm just curious.
