Post Partum Headaches?

Since Delaney was born almost 2 weeks ago, I've had at least one horrible headache every day. I rarely had headaches during my pregnancy, but now they're agonizing and lasting for several hours. Anybody else experiencing this? I kind of doubt its from lack of sleep, shes a great sleeper.

It could be from your hormones going back to normal post partum or you might not be hydrated enough. I know for me when I wasn't pregnant, I didn't drink enough water in a day and hydration caused me to have awful migraines for weeks on end.

Did you have an epidural? You can leak spinal fluid after having an epidural and it can cause headaches for weeks.

Yeah I have heard of epidural headaches and some people even have to get a patch on their spine or something to stop them.

I think I've heard the same thing about hormones and epidurals. Maybe give your doc a call if you did have an epi just to make sure because the spinal headaches can be serious.

I'm just going to agree with the others - epidural leak, hormones readjusting, not enough fluids - and certainly a lack of good sleep can all play into it.

How are you feeling now? Did you get checked out?

Yes, I had a spinal headache. Does it go away if you are lying down? I had a c/s and had the patch before I left the hospital (they take blood from your arm and put it in where you had your spinal on your back) and it patches the hole where the fluid is leaking.

When I sat up, it felt like my head would explode because there would be a rush of pressure. I also could not move my head back and forth because my neck was so stiff. The patch helped about 90%. I had light headaches (which felt more like normal headaches) for a couple days and then it went away.

Without the patch the headaches can last a couple weeks.

I did have an epidural, and I'm still having major migraines. I was hoping they'd resolve on their own, but I'm thinking a call to my doc might fix things faster. Thanks for the replies-I really hope its just hormones!
