Tearfully Excruciating Painful Nipples

I am CRYING over here. This is getting out of control. With my first, my daughter, my nipples were so painful - I knew I was pregnant before the stick turned positive. It was February, in North Dakota, the cold was brutal. I had to apply warm compresses constantly to reduce the pain. I nursed her and thought that must have been the reason that I didn't have one bit of sensitivity with my next 3 pregnancies - all boys. My 3rd pregnancy, I was still nursing #2 but was done when he was 10 months. Now, I'm still nursing my 4th and he's just 11 months. I'm so near wanting to be done nursing him because it is so painful. I'm not enjoying nursing anymore, I tear up every time. I dread it, and that's not fair.

I'm not going through as excruciating pain as it sounds like you are, but I'm dealing with some severe discomfort and borderline pain here, too. I didn't have this at all with my son, so maybe it is a "girl" sign...who knows. I feel your pain and hope you get some kind of relief soon.

Ouch! You poor thing! I usually have that symptom but it only lasts for the first few weeks. I was nursing and it sucked. I have no advice but I hope it improves for you.

Thanks everyone. Nothing is making them better yet - the colder weather setting in really makes it so much worse. I'm trying not to offer the breast so much during the day - that's when he seems to pull more while he eats. It's not bad at night even though I tend to fall back asleep and my boob hangs out in the wide open cool air half the night! I'm making a better effort to keep a sweatshirt on and to make sure I'm well covered if I have to go outside. I'm also trying to drink more warm fluids to keep my internal temp a bit warmer.

It really is horrible. I'm not sure it would stop if I stopped nursing but I swear, if I have to deal with this all the way through April, I'm going to be miserable! :(
