I Knew I Was in Labor When...

Once you've got your hospital bag packed, your infant car seat installed and the diapers arranged in little stacks near the changing table, waiting for the early signs of labor can drive you to distraction. Never mind that it can be hard for a first-time mom to know whether that squeeze was just another Braxton-Hicks contraction -- or the real kick-off to childbirth. And the answer that everyone gives -- "Oh, don't worry. You'll know!" -- is just not helpful at all.

BTDT mamas, how did you know you were in labor with previous pregnancies?  What made you realize this was really *it*?

First I had bloody show in the morning when I woke up.  at 630 that same night, my water broke.  Funny thing was that my sister thought her water broke and got to the hospital and found out she had just wet her pants!  So even though I felt exactly where the water was coming from, and it wasn't pee, I was scared to go to the hospital!!  LOL  I was 38 weeks!

I knew I was in labor when I woke up Monday morning and couldn't control the pee that was coming out. I realized after a few seconds that it was my water breaking. Yep, that's right....my April boy became a March boy this week! I ended up having a Caesarean section, because he wasn't doing well when I was dilated only 2 cm. They didn't really know why, but his heart rate had already slowed down twice, and the team was afraid the placenta wasn't strong enough or something. Well, it turned out the umbilical cord was wrapped 3 times around his neck. The main surgeon was so glad I had agreed to the C-section (so were DH and I!). We just got home from the hospital this afternoon.

Wow!!! Congratulations!!! I'm just now reading this as I've been out of it due to a stomach bug...argh. But woah...what a scare with the cord. Good to know you are all well and home now.

Yes, apparently, i was having some uterine contractions the night before, but I didn't know what they were. I thought baby Noah was kicking around! It was when the monitor showed it was a contraction that I learned what it had really been. I will try to attach a picture as soon as I figure out how (they are on my phone).
