That's how the hospital was that I delivered at the first time... I was up every 5 minutes between the baby and nurses coming to look at my crotch. The second hospital (and the one I'll deliver at this time too) was really hands off at night time. I think they only came in once after I had fallen asleep. Still, I just like being home where I'm comfortable and know where everything is and I hope to spend as little time as possible in the hospital this time!

i agree w being alone the first week (or more, for me anyways). i dont really care for visitors coming right after i have a baby. im not my best, the house isnt the best, and obviously we are still trying to get used to a new baby. i know, i know, people will realize i just had a baby so who cares about the house and what i look like, but i do. what i do appreciate tho is when people just stop by to bring something (food, gift, to grab the older ones, etc) and dont stay long at all. my gf would come by to bring food or grab our laundry to do for us, but wouldnt barge in and grab the baby and set up shop for an hour or two. lol. anyways, i prefer it to be "just us" for a good while.

I LOVE the hospital stay, someone else cooks and cleans and you just get to rest and cuddle with your sweet new babe. I'm with you, it's an escape from the chaos. I know my husband isn't looking forward to it, but to me, it's a total vacation!

After reading everyone's post, now I'm remembering all the pad checking and the "have you pooped" questions, and wanting to lie to them just so they'd leave me alone...maybe vacation was the wrong word.

I've delivered in 3 different hospitals, and it's always been that way in my experience. And, I understand they're just doing their job, and I appreciate them looking after me, but the sooner baby and I can bail, the better. :) It'll be interesting to see how they do things at this (another new) hospital.

Maybe it depends on the nurses, but I didn't have stitches with Jake (he was smaller than the other two and my OB was very anti-episiotomy) and they were still down there nosing in my business. My guess is they're checking on bleeding, maybe?

And now I'm remembering having to wear a pad for a week. Ugh. I just hate that!
