Heartburn - what's safe?

Hi!! I've always had mild heartburn and now that I'm preggo I'm worried to take my usual heartburn remedies. I absolutely hate Tums, so I've always either popped a Zantac or a chewable Gaviscon foam tab. Are either of these still ok to take during pregnancy? If not, what's the best for controlling heartburn? Thanks!! :) - Megan

TUMS are the safest and give you calcium too. Since you don't like those I'd check with your OB. Some women do take Zantac but every pregnancy & patient are different so you should have your doctor explain the risks vs benefits before you take it. Hope it let's up for you soon! That's my worst symptom as well and it can make me miserable!

Since you had problems with heartburn pre-pg, I don't know if this will help, but I had fabulous luck when I was pg with #1 with papaya enzyme chewables from Whole Foods. They're tasty, and they really helped.
