The genetic consult was pretty much what I expected, going over results, how they came up with the results from the nuchal measurement and blood work and available testing options, etc. Did find out that both the nuchal measurement and 1 part of my bloodwork (I think the PAPP-A) are what increased my Downs risks. We opted to do some additional bloodwork, a sequential screen and a very new blood test that picks up fetal DNA fragments out of maternal blood serum (which I think is either the Harmony or MaterniT21 test I've been hearing about, but they didn't give me a name for it). The bloodwork for the sequential screen they said is about 95% accurate testing for Downs, and the DNA fragment test is about 99% accurate testing for Downs.
I also wasn't expecting an ultrasound today since i'm only just into my 15th week, but they decided to do one to look for any additional Downs markers. The u/s looked great, NO DOWNS MARKERS!!! And even though this little goober was stubborn and didn't want to show its face, the first shot the tech got proved that this one is ALL BOY, lol. I seriously thought this one was going to be another girl, but we were definitely hoping for a boy and we got our wish!
We are super happy, no markers is such a great sign and we get our boy!! Our DD is going to be dissappointed though, she really wanted a sister, lol. :)
