Breastfeeding Class

This past week my DH and I took a breastfeeding class and I would defiantly recommend taking one. We learned so much in the class about the different holds and exactly how to do it, the benefits, bras, pumping, how to feed correctly from a bottle, and how our SO could support us in our effort. There were a lot of husbands there supporting their wives, which is always nice to see. The one I took was from the hospital I am delivering at and they did not have an all or nothing attitude about it.

I'm glad that you found the class beneficial. DH and I are taking parenting classes for eight weeks.
1st class: Introductions/Nutrition
2nd class: baby basics (looking forward to this one)
3rd Class: Labor and Delivery
4th Class: Labor and Delivery pt. 2
5th Class: Feeding Options
6th Class: First Aid
7th Class: Budgeting/Infant Brain Development
8th (final) Class: Discipline/Pizza Party
The classes are offered for free and we get a $150 gift card to Walmart at the last class (if we attend at 7/8 classes) toward baby stuff! We had our first class tonight and it's supposed to last 1 1/2 hour(s) each class, but this one only lasted an hour, which was nice since it's later in the evening. I do find the information informative, plus you can't beat free stuff!
That is really nice that they did not have an all or nothing attitude about it as well. I think the lactation consultants at my hospital were kind of extreme, the morning after he was born he would not nurse and after his circumcision he was so tired he wouldn't wake up to eat after that either, so I wanted to pump and syringe feed him a little, because he HAD to eat. They did not want me to do this, but thankfully one of the nurses brought the pump and syringe in so we could because she understood he needed to eat too. And when I mentioned just pumping and bottle feeding the consultant looked at me like I was crazy and said it's too hard and would end up giving up and going to formula, and I just needed to nurse no matter what. Well here I am over 2 months still pumping and bottle feeding with absolutely no plans of stopping! They can really be bullies sometimes.
Local hospitals usually offer them. Wherever you're planning on delivering check the website or call to see what they have.
When we first found out we were pregnant, we wanted confirmation before our first appointment, so we found a free test center (thanks to Google) and they also offered free classes (w/the gift card at the end of the class).
