I know we're all at different stages in our pregnancies, but have you started buying things for the baby yet?  I wanted to start buying things and DH wants to wait until we're further along so we don't have things starting to pile up before the baby's room is ready.  We also have a friend who told me it's bad luck to buy anything for your own pregnancy before you are 6 months along.  I don't think I am superstitious about buying things, but I don't want to upset DH.  Has anyone started buying things yet or are you waiting to see what you get at your baby showers? If you're further along when did you start buying things for the baby?

I can definitely understand not wanting to move any additional things! I'm excited to hear what you're having!

i'm 19 weeks now. i haven't started buying things yet, but people have started lending things already. so i have several baby gear items in my house. we're planning to register after the move and finding out the gender next week. we'll probably start buying things once we're in the new house - no sense in buying things now just to have to move them to a new house!

When I was about 13 or 14 weeks we ordered our crib and bassinet. After that we did not buy anything until we knew what we were having and the day we found out it was a boy we bought some clothes. The rest of the pregnancy was just picking up a few things here and there that we did not register for or if I found cute clothes on clearance.

I purchased a crib quilt from a Swap group I belong to - it was Peter Rabbit (my nursery theme) and had never been used.  I also got a small stuffed Peter Rabbit.  My mom has been buying baby stuff for awhile now and has it saved at her house.  I've been really good so far and just looked but not purchased other things.  If a sewing mood kicks in I might make a few things though!  I will definitely be cross-stitching some bibs in the near future. :-)

I forgot to add that since we are cloth diapering I started to buy cloth diapers and supplies around 18weeks. We have also been giving a huge box of clothes from DH's parents so we don't really need to buy any. People love to give hand me downs randomly, so you might not even need to buy clothes at all.

The only thing we bought was a green camouflage onesie over the weekend. I got it to fit a 3 month old baby. DH is not big into buying things until after our shower, which won't be until November. He wants to see what we get and then buy what we still need. We both agreed that a bassinet is not necessary for us, but a pack and play is. I'm sure the grandparents will buy some of the bigger stuff like the traveling system (stroller and car seat) and crib.  Plus, from what I hear with how many diapers you get at your shower you don't have to buy them for months. I'll probably get a breastpump because they're pretty expensive and some post baby belly bands.

I also plan to try going to some yard sales and see if I can get some great deals! I haven't pushed the issue yet since DH wants to wait to do much buying for the baby. I know I'll have at least the one shower so I assume I'll get lots of good things there. I agree that it's better to wait to buy the big items until further along!

We just started buying the big things this past week. The first thing we bought for our baby was this hand-knit green dragon stuffed animal when we first TTC last summer (seems like eons ago). We bought other little things like a classic pooh picture and gender neutral essential clothes before 20 weeks, but there is not need to buy the big things now. I would really wait until 6 or 7 months before buying things like the crib, car seat, stroller, etc.  Even though I am not having a baby shower I found this list helpful since I know relatives want to get me things  http://www.whattoexpect.com/first-year/baby-shower-gift-list.aspx. You really want to save buying lots of clothes and toys until after the baby shower. Besides you never know you might have a 10 lb baby who does not fit into all the cute little clothes you bought.
