My 6 week old baby will not nap in his crib. He just moved into his crib and own room on Saturday, but before that he would not sleep in his bassinet during naps,. He will sleep if I am holding him or if he is in the swing, and in the carseat, but will only sleep in his crib for 30-45 minutes during nap time. He is great at night. Though last night he was up every 3-31/2 hours. He only naps for 3-4 hours starting late morning, then wakes up and eats, is up for another 2 hours or more, then will take another mini nap. I am not sure swaddling would work b/c he likes to move his arms and legs all the time. Do I let him cry himself back to sleep? Or how long do I let him cry for?

I think he is too young to cry it out.

I agree with pp, CIO at 6 weeks is way too young! I would just keep trying new things until something works. Honestly, at that age, I don't think that my son slept much more than an hour during naps either. Once they are eating more and more the naps seemed to get longer. For now I would probably just let him fall asleep in the swing too, or in your lap and then try placing him into the crib. For the first year, you can't spoil a baby, IMHO! :) Enjoy it, they grow out of each stage so quickly!

Ugh im having the same problem with my 6week old! She will only sleep in the swing, sling or in arms and every time i put her down into her crib or port-a-cot after she falls asleep it doesnt last very long before shes up and crying - i would really try swaddling - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt but its all worth a try!! Also with the CIO i let Elody cry a bit before i go in and get her if shes only just gone down (but i will only let her whine a bit - not go out into a full on cry) and sometimes she puts herself back to sleep - but again she will only stay asleep for 30-40mins.. Sorry im no help but at least ur not alone! And ive been told many times that it will get better - for now i will just have to put up with the sound of the swing :P
