Maybe it is because I am only 10 days away from meeting my little girl, but I am starting to get nervous about becoming a mom. I have never been around a newborn before so I am not sure I will know what to do. Anyone else nervous about becoming a parent?

I think no matter how prepared you are, how planned the pregnancy is, how long it took you to get here or what you had to go through to become a parent, all first time parents have anxiety about becoming a parent. The closer you get the the "big" day the more real everything becomes. I am still ten weeks out, so it hasn't exactly hit me. I am still in the nesting stage (getting ready both at work and home).

GL and enjoy your last week (or so) with just you and hubby. Your life will be forever changed! Smile

I'm sure I will get more nervous as it gets closer.  I was just thinking of you and hoping you were doing ok.  I was going to message you and ask if you were looking forward to having your little girl in your arms.  I have moments where I am really nervous but I'm sure it will get worse.  You'll be a great mom Katie!  I'm so excited for you!

YES!  count me in as one of the nervous ones!

good news is that everyone has to go through the "figuring out" process too, so it helps to know we're not alone.  i'm sure we'll all do great.  the fact that we're here and care enough to learn what we can is a good sign, i think.  knowledge is power, and hopefully all the knowledge we're in the process of gleaning (and will in the future) will help us all become great mommies.

good luck, it's getting so close!

I'm not pregnant but I saw your post title on the main page and it struck a chord. I absolutely remember being nervous! On the drive to the hospital I told my dh that our lives would never be the same again. I also had no experience with newborns or babies under about 6 months. Fortunately I felt more excited than overwhelmed. Then when he was born I was almost afraid that I would break him somehow.

The nurses were great, they actually had to check off that the new moms could perform certain tasks (like umbilical care but also diapering etc) before they would release the baby so they will show you anything that you don't know and watch to make sure you have it right--I hope they still do this. You will quickly become a pro, trust me on this!!

BTW, that baby that I was scared of recently turned 29 and despite whatever mistakes I made, he turned out fine.

Best of luck to you!
