We registered at Target for our shower today. I went in with a list in hand, but we just walked up and down each aisle and went from there. I also added a couple of more things online when I got home because I didn't think of it in the store. We'll be making our own invitations and have those ready to be sent out in the next week to give people a month's notice- our shower is November 3.
We went with the Eddie Bauer theme for the stroller travel system, pack and play, and high chair- in blue. Then the bouncer crib bedding, and play mat is monkey theme.
I'm going to buy the breast pump b/c it's way more than I'd be comfortable with someone else paying. We're also going to buy the stroller travel system (to make sure we get the one we want, plus it's too expensive for someone to buy)- we didn't even add it to our registry. We received a 20% off coupon when registering to go towards our stroller. We'll also be buying the crib since our parenting class is giving us a $150 Walmart card towards the crib, so we'll only have to pay the other half.

Thanks ladies, yes it was a lot of fun to register. I took off the onsies and pacies we orginally registered for b/c I figured we'll get that anyway and I we also didn't register for detergent or baby bath stuff (shampoo, lotion, oil, and powder) b/c we figured we'd get a boat load of the stuff. I did register for diapers just because I wanted to go with Pampers, so hopefully that's what we get and not the generic stuff, which I guess is okay because we can always exchange doubles or what we don't need to go towards the costs of things we do need. I have an extra breast pump (travel) that someone gave me that I could use on while traveling or when/if I go back to work, but we're thinking about selling that one to go towards the costs of other stuff. The teachers and the kindergarten teacher's class threw her a shower last year about a month before she had the baby, so I'm sure I'll get something similar (maybe instead of gifts from my class a gift card to go towards baby stuff + a gift card from the teachers like they did last year's teacher who was pregnant)- they also had cake and a lunch. That would at least help pay for one of the bigger items. Let the count down begin... 100 days! Crazy how quick it's going now. Although, I did figure it would once I started back at school. I've been staying until 4-4:30 anyway (school gets out at 2:45) and coming in at 7 (school starts at 8) to give myself time to work ahead on lesson plans and copies, so I can begin work on my sub plans soon.
I thought a month's notice was more than enough time for people to figure out whether or not they were coming/able to schedule off work, but I already have people telling me they can't make it, which is a little disappointing considering we went to everyone else's showers.
I'm slowly putting together our registry. I'm using Amazon though and have the disclaimer on most items that something similar would be just fine. We already bought our crib from someone here. It was one I'd looked at and determined too expensive, but they were selling theirs for $175! :-) I did pick out a slightly more expensive car seat, but it has a steel frame and will grow with the baby clear up through the booster seat requirements so was more cost-friendly over buying 3 different car/booster seats.
That's awesome that your parenting class gives you the gift card towards the crib! :-)
Registering was so much fun.
