Who will be in the delivery room with you?

Who will be in the room with you when you give birth? Will it be just you and your DH/SO? Will you have friends and/or family members join you? Also, who do you think should have the final say on who gets to be in the room with you? Since it is your labor and delivery, should that be left up to you?

I'm not sure what the limit is where I'll be delivering, but if I had to choose three, it would be DH, my mom, and my younger (and only) sister.  I don't mind if my dad comes in, but he's not critical.  My in-laws live 9 hours away so they are not really a consideration, but I'm not sure I would be totally comfortable having them in the room with us.  They are super great people, but when delivery time comes, I just want to relax and be myself and do what I have to do -- any my family knows me in that sense in a way my in-laws probably never wll.

Won't your DH at least want to be in the room if you have a c-section? He doesn't have to watch or look or anything, but could still be in there to support you and be there when his son or daughter is born.

I just plan to have DH and the usual medical staff. I'm actually ok with having a student nurse to observe. It's something that I never got to see when I was a student and I think it would be nice to give them that opportunity. I may not feel the same when I'm in labor, but at this point that's how I feel.

The only family member who will be allowed in the delivery room will be my DH. Of course my OB will be there and a whole slew of other medical professionals. Under normal circumstances it would have been my mom, a doula, a midwife, and my DH.

I currently will have no say in who is in there, but if I have it my way I want the least number of people possible. Even with a c-section I think it should still be something intimate since you are still bringing a child into this world, which is a miracle in itself.

I think it's up to the woman. If she's comfortable having DH/SO, Mother, Mother-in-law and other relatives present- then go for it. Personally, that is an experience I want to be between DH and I. I know there will be plenty of visits once we have the baby, but for the labor/delivery I want just us. Really, I would love it to be that way for the first couple of hours even after, so we can bond with the baby and have time to try to breastfeed. But, the in-laws are first time grandparents, this is only my mom's second grandchild (both boys and five years apart), and this is my dad and step-mom's eighth grandchild, but will be the baby- even though there's another grandchild due in November- it's the third one to my brother. But, it is my first, so kind of a big deal for everyone around. I know at least three of my four sisters would want to come as well as at least two brothers of my four. Plus, a couple of aunts and cousins, so it'll be pretty busy. Visits will be after.  I probably won't even make calls about being in labor until after I deliver (may change my mind, but that's how I feel right now). The in-laws will know right away though since we live in a two family house with them and also since it's their first grandchild (DH is an only child, so our children will be there only grandchildren).
