Hi,
So I am only 9 weeks along, and just had my head to toe physical yesterday at the Dr. She has assigned me an OB due to my tiny size. Well the Dr. yesterday, who is not a family Dr, just a walk in, but I go there regularly I left extremely unhappy with her.
Iam 24 and since I was 15, I've had PAP tests. Well yesterday she did a swab, since I just had a PAP in April and it was normal. And I have to say it was the most uncomfortable exam of that nature I have ever had. First off since I am so small, I have never had a Dr use a regular sized speculm, they always go down a size so it fits comfortably. Well she used an average size one, and also did not put gel/lube on it. So I had to deal with her forcing this too large, dry speculum into me, while she decided to point out that "Your a little dry" .It was actually painful! Plus she kept tightening it,since it clearly wouldn't fit and kept sliding out. It was horrid. Then when she did the abdominal exam, to feel if my uterus is the correct size for how far along I am I felt as though she was a little rough, while poking and prodding my belly. Maybe the poking and prodding my belly is normal, the way she went about it, but I just felt she was a little rough. Jabbing her fingers into my abdomen. I was slightly afraid for my tiny baby. I didn't say anything since she seemed in quite a rush the whole time and was chit chatting throughout it all. Plus I already had her change the hospital I am supposed to go to deliver since I heard very bad things about the sanitization. I don't want to seem like a pest but I shiver when I think about going back to see her in another month. I may call the other clinic we have, ask them if they have space to take me on then call the place I am going to now to let them know I will be continuing my care elsewhere. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the replies. I called the other clinic we have in town this morning, explained that the current place I am going to Iam not happy with and they said for my next appt next month, to come see them, decide how I feel about their doctors, and if I wish to continue with them, they will fax a letter to the place I am currently with explaining I want to switch. I am sure Dr wise I will be much happier at the other clinic, I have heard good things and just the place in general looks more professional, up to date and modern too. I am actually looking forward to my next appt.
I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I would defiantly call the other clinic to try to get seen by them.
One thing though is, the swab would have hurt no matter what, everything is just more sensitive down there when you are pregnant. But, not putting lube on the speculum? I have never had them not put lube on the speculum, so I can't imagine the pain you must have been in. I have also heard that you can't really get a good feel for how big the uterus is this soon in pregnancy. I always thought they could not tell until at least 12-14 weeks by feeling the abdomen.
You want to feel comfortable with your doctor, so keep looking until you are comfortable with who you are seeing. Best of luck!
