Has anyone had a cerclage (cervix sewn shut)? Does it hurt? What should I expect?  I'm gonna need one at 12 - 20 weeks.

I have not had one so I don't have any advice.  I just want to wish you the best of luck and offer you some (((HUGS))).  Let us know how it goes when you get to that point.

  • I see my high risk specialist July 10th for another sonogram. He wants to see me at 12 weeks. I will let you know everything once it gets done. Thank you :))

My best friend did with her son. She had been admitted due to early labor before they did the cerclage so her experience was a little more high stress than what you normally see. It was done in an operating room and she had a spinal block, so she didn't feel anything. They tilted the table up so her feet were higher than her head and that was an unexpected thing for her. She was monitored closely, but went on to full term and had a healthy baby.

Wow. Thank you for the story! I went to the high risk specialist and my cervix are still long, but in 3 days I go in for this surgery to prevent preterm labor. I'm nervous, but I hope this helps my baby thrive for 26 more weeks. I'll let you know how it goes.

OK, I had a cerclage put in. It was not bad at all. I did have to go under, but I woke up smileing. It felt like a tampon put in wrong on the first day, but it healed wonderfully. I could still be intimate with husband throughout the pregnancy. At 36 weeks I had it removed in the office. It didn't hurt too bad. Felt like a pap. Dr said I had a 15% chance to deliver that day. Now I'm 39 weeks and my baby still has not arrived. If you have had issues in the past I deeply recommend the cerclage because it does not hurt and you can continue to work as well as have the peice of mind. That's the update :))
